déSCRIPTION album Diabolos (dsl en anglais)
The tracks are as follows:
1) "Misty" - A new piano song from gackt. It's a pretty, short opening to the album and sets the dark tone nicely.
2) "Farewell" - An orchestral rock ballad with some interesting skip-y digital effects reminiscent of Madonna's "Don't Tell Me" (Don't worry, that's not a CD defect, it's supposed to do that). Gackt's vocals are strong and clear, without so much of the whiny nasal quality from the last few albums.
3) "Noesis" - This arrangement is completely different from the one on the single, so if you've heard it, you haven't heard it yet! There are many more synthesizer parts and extra guitar riffs here, as well as improved mixing / panning / vocal effects.
4) "Ash" - Also a little different from the single, it sounds a bit clearer than I remember it being the first time I heard it. There are also extra harmony parts. Go Gackt! He's finally learned about the power of harmonized chorusing and multiple vocal tracks! (Although he's still only throwing in two or three... let's hear him go Erasure style and make like 8 or 10 vocal tracks next time!)
5) "Metamorphoze" - Either something's wrong with this particular recording or I'm finally developing tonitis from all the loud ass concerts I go to. Listened to on hi-end headphones (Bang Olufsen), there's a SUPERBLY ANNOYING high pitched whine throughout the ENTIRE first verse. I think it's a sound artifact from the combination of the cymbals and the initial electric guitar riff. Anyway, this is pretty much the same as the single (with the exception of the annoying sound and a few more space-y ambient effects thrown into the bridge).
6) "Dispar" (I assume Gackt or someone at the printing agency MEANT to write 'Despair'?) - Holy shit, this is the coolest song EVAR. It's a techno / darkwave intro that blends into 80's big-hair guitar rock with almost rockabilly / swing style vocals with a slight rap rhythmic feel to them. Lots of changing meter and skip effects, and a very sudden ending. Fuckin' A. This has to be a close second to "Dybbuk" in my book -- another song the little nice japanese fan girls had BEST get the fuck out of my way for during the concert this Friday. ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK!
7) "Future" - Beautiful soaring violin by our lovely You-kun and gentle acoustic guitar provided by Cha the God of Guitar. This is probably the only ballad on the album, at least at the beginning. It evolves into something like a more up-beat "Fragrance" during the choruses and adds in the most interesting and haunting sound effects, something like the beginning of "Lust For Blood" or parts of "Doomsday". Overall it has a very spacious reverb feel to it, as though it were recorded in a huge, cavernous chamber. I LOVE this song.
8- "Black Stone" - Same arrangement as the single, but again, clearer and cleaner sounding.
9) "Storm" - More ROCK ROCK ROCK, this time with a definite rap feel to it, complete with 80's scratch effects ~_^. Also more orchestra and piano to flesh it out. Too sweet. Go Cha, you da man! ~_^ And Gackt REALLY has a hard on for the skip effect thingy, I think at this point, it must be in EVERY song, at least once.
10) "Road" - I feel like I'm listening to The Eagles, or Stryper, or Journey, or Queen, or somesuch 80's up-beat rock-ballad band for this song. It sounds so wholesome and happy you can almost taste the cotton candy and "moving onward now" nostalgia. And NICE layered-vocal ending (very "Sakurasou")! We're getting closer to that Erasure feel now!
11) "Todokanaitoodamnlongtotypeitallout" - Same as the single. This song sounds like it was just tacked on to the end of the album at the record company's request. It doesn't fit there at all after the nice "closing" feel of "Road". If he was going to include it, imho, it should have been between "Storm" and "Road". It's a good song, it just sounds weird being the last one.
